On the Spot: Allan Warburton talks to us about Laundrapp’s New York launch

Can you introduce yourself, who are you and what do you do?

I’m Allan and I’m the MD for Laundrapp, looking after all aspects of the business including local and international expansion.

What is Laundrapp in a nutshell?

Laundrapp is the leading UK on-demand app-based Laundry service. Laundrapp allows our customers to seamlessly order dry cleaning and laundry to be collected and redelivered from their doorstep or office at a time that suits them.

What is Laundrapps secret weapon? 

We obsess over customer service and we always want to hear from our customers. We’re proud of our UK based customer service team who operate live chat and manage our phone lines. It sounds fairly basic, but when our customers call us, a human being answers the phone.

And the biggest challenge? 

Our biggest challenge is finding excellent partners. It’s easy for us to find mediocre partners that won’t back the high standards of our customers. We have a dedicated team who relentlessly vet potential partners and manage closely or current relationships. It’s easy to not do this but we see quality as key to our success.

Why is Laundrapp launching in NYC?

The combination of technology that is less than 12 months old alongside an excellent partnership that allows us to cover NYC puts us in a strong position to launch our service in the state.

Why not launch somewhere close to home?

Quite simply, we could, but we’ve chosen not to. Laundrapp will only scale with the best of the best when it comes to cleaning partnerships and we will always prioritise quality over speed every time. Our NYC operation meets all of our high standards which creates the perfect opportunity for our partner and our customers.

Are there plans for more states? 

Our immediate focus is on NYC. We are constantly exploring new opportunities which in the future, may include additional states.

One single bit of advice to any new entrepreneur looking to start a business? 

In short, go for it – and roll with the consequences. Never over talk or over plan. While you’re planning and thinking, your competition is doing.

Your biggest fear?

Looking back wishing I’d done something when I had the opportunity but didn’t.
